The Nook

What started as a simple idea to get a tool for my kids turned into something much bigger—a dedicated workshop nook built right under the stairs.

The space features a custom-fitted workbench with an integrated vise, a safely enclosed nibbler setup designed for controlled use, a smart lighting solution built into custom angled wooden housings to avoid glare in the low-clearance area and a secret room for some much needed relaxation and privacy after a hard day of woodworking!

The walls are finished with custom-milled panels made from 2x4s, giving the space a warm, durable feel while keeping costs practical.

Thoughtful details run throughout—from hidden electrical and a dedicated power switch, to a built-in waste collection system and storage solutions that make cleanup simple. Even the layout was designed with safety in mind, limiting access to moving parts while keeping everything intuitive for kids to use.

What it really became is more than just a project—it’s a space where they can build, experiment, and make a mess that actually belongs somewhere.
