Scrabble Board

In a world dominated by screens, getting kids to slow down and play something like Scrabble or chess can feel almost impossible. So, I decided to experiment. I ordered a simple set of Scrabble tiles and left them scattered on the living room coffee table.

When my kids got home from school, they were instantly drawn to it. No instructions, no nudging—they just sat down and started making words. That quiet, unexpected moment lit a spark. It reminded me that simple, tangible things still have the power to pull us in.

Sure, I could’ve just bought a high-end Scrabble set—there are plenty out there, complete with rotating boards and fancy finishes. But I figured: I have wood, I have tools... why not make something better?

So I did. A solid walnut board with brass details, a hidden drawer, a leather tile pouch, and a rotating base strong enough to survive game night chaos.

You can watch the full build.
